Properties Window dialog

Dialogs Overview

Overview

When an object is clicked on a table or chart, properties of that object are immediately displayed in the docked properties window. When an object is double-clicked or a menu item such as [Edit Order...] or [Project Settings...] is clicked, the corresponding object is also displayed in the properties window, however in that case, you can specify whether you want to display the object in the currently docked properties window or to display a separate "edit dialog" that has a properties window embedded inside it.

Opening the window

When a new project is created, the properties window is displayed in docked state and the display method is set to "Always open dialog". This setting is the default value and we recommend the most users to use the properties window in this way. That way you can use the most convenient type of properties window depending on each situation, for example displaying a properties window dialog very large in the center of the screen when you are editing an object, but using the docked properties window while performing operations in other windows such as time charts.

Steps

To specify the properties window display method, follow the steps below.

1. Select [View] - [Workspace Settings] from the main menu to display the workspace settings.

2. Change the settings of the property "Properties window display method" in the General tab.

Depending on how you specify the properties window display method, behaviors will differ as below.

Properties window display method

When clicking an object

When double-clicking an object or clicking a menu item or tool button

When jumping to another object from the properties window

Never open dialog

When the docked properties window is displayed, properties of the clicked object will be displayed there. When the properties window is hidden, the properties will not be forcibly displayed.

Properties of the specified object will be displayed in the docked properties window. When the properties window is hidden, the properties will be forcibly displayed.

Properties of the specified object will be displayed in a new properties window dialog.

* Strictly speaking, "the docked properties window" here means "the docked or floating properties window". In other words, it means the properties window that is not set in a dialog.

Behavior when closing the dialog

When the OK button is clicked or the Enter key is pressed, the properties window will be closed activating the settings made in the properties window.

When the Cancel button is clicked or the Esc key is pressed, the properties window will be closed discarding the settings made in the properties window.

Changing behaviors using the Ctrl key

By pressing the Ctrl key, you can control whether to display the properties window dialog or not.

When an object is double-clicked or a menu item is clicked with the Ctrl key held down, the behavior will be the opposite of the usual behavior.

For example, when the property [Properties window display method] is set to "Always open dialog", the properties window dialog will be usually displayed when an object is double-clicked. However, if an object is double-clicked with the Ctrl key held down, the dialog will not be opened but properties of that object will be displayed in the docked properties window.

Note, only when an object is single-clicked, properties of the object will be displayed in the docked properties window regardless whether the Ctrl key is held down.

Resizing the dialog

You can freely resize the properties window dialog. When the properties window dialog is closed, the size and the position in which the dialog was displayed last will be remembered.
