Use instruction bar resizing

Steps

Resource Gantt chart

On resource rows of a chart, the use-time of a use instruction or task bar (setup, production or teardown) can be changed with the mouse.

When bar is selected by clicking with the left mouse button, an orange point will be shown on each end of the bar as below.
By dragging this point with the mouse, the length of the bar can be changed.
As well as production task bars, the setup and teardown lengths can also be modified.

The orange point will only be shown for bars which can be modified for that direction (start time, end time).
As shown above if a task bar has been newly scheduled, both ends of the bar will be draggable.

However where results have been specified, as below where the result start time has been set, the start time becomes fixed and the orange point will not be shown at the left end of the bar.
In this case, only the end time of the bar can be modified.

When the use-time of a bar is changed, depending on what type of bar it is, the

Setup bar User specified setup time
Production bar User specified production time
Teardown bar User specified teardown time

properties will be set accordingly.

Allow time adjustment of bars

In chart display settings, there is Allow time adjustment of bars property (in Bar tab). This property specifies whether the use-time of a use instruction bar or task bar can be changed on the chart (From Ver.6.3.1).

If the value is set as yes, changing is possible. This is the default value.
If the value is set as no, the use-time can not be changed.

If the time adjustment of bars is set off, the orange point is not shown although bar is selected.

It is also possible to change this setting using the corner part popup menu ticking Allow bar resizing.

When ticked, use time can be changed. Otherwise, the length can not be changed.
The property value changes accordingly.

Tooltip display

While resizing a task bar, a tooltip will be displayed.
The contents of the tooltip can be changed via the 'Assignment time adjustment tooltip expression' property of the timechart (under the Bar tab). The default is to display the new use-time and quantity.

Property window display

The property window can be set to display immediately after completing resizing of a bar, to confirm the new setting or make manual adjustments.

To enable the display of the property window after resizing, edit the 'Show dialog after assignment time adjustment' property (under the Bar tab) of the timechart. The default setting is to show the dialog only if the Ctrl key is pressed when the resize is completed.

 Option Overview
Don't show dialog The dialog will not be shown
Show dialog only if Ctrl key is pressed The dialog will only be shown if the Ctrl key is held down as the time adjustment is completed
Display dialog The dialog will be shown

The property window shown contains the following information:

 Property name Overview
Previous time span The time span of the task before adjustment
New time span The time span of the task after adjustment
Previous quantity The quantity of the operation before adjustment
New quantity The quantity of the operation after adjustment
Change quantity Specifies whether to also change the quantity of the operation when adjusting the time
Fix operation Specifies whether to fully fix the operation after the adjustment

Additionally, the 'Auto-fix time adjusted operations' property of the timechart (under the Bar tab) can be used to automatically fix the operations after they are resized.

Resizing step size

When resizing bars, the 'Assignment time resizing step' property of the timechart (under the Bar tab) can be used to make the resizing action occur in for example, 10 minute steps.

Snapping to adjacent operations

When resizing an operation where other operations exist on the same resource, when the end of the bar being resized is close to the other operation, it may 'snap' to position in order to fill the available space between the two operations, in the same way as operations being moved with the mouse will 'snap' into position.

If the bar is moved even further, the bar being moved will be assigned as if the resource has infinite capacity.

When the 'Assignment time resizing step' is set, and the bar end being resized is close enough to a neighboring operation to be 'snapped' towards it, the resizing step setting will be ignored.

Operations with status set

Operations with status other than 'Scheduled' can be resized, but there are restrictions

Released

The operation can be resized in the same way as a 'Scheduled' operation.

Frozen

The operation can be resized in the same way as a 'Scheduled' operation.

Started

Only the end time can be altered.
The behaviour during resizing differs depending on what result dates are set:

Reported start time is set

The start time will not move, but the end time can be changed. The end time can also be changed.

Results obtain time is set

During resizing, the operation will move so that the point where the completed portion of the operation ends is on the results obtain time. The end time can also be changed.

No result dates are set

During resizing, the operation will move so that the point where the completed portion of the operation ends is on the project basis time The end time can also be changed.

Completed

The behaviour during resizing differs depending on what result dates are set:

Reported start time is set

The start time will not move, but the end time can be changed. The end time can also be changed.

Reported end time is set

The end time is not changeable, but the start time can be moved.

Both reported start time and Reported end time are set

No resizing changes can be made

No result dates are set

Both the start and end times can be changed.
